About
Me
Raised in South Carolina, I am certainly adjusting to the colder weather living up here in Illinois! I was born in Galveston, Texas, but my family moved to Conway, South Carolina, when I was just six months old. As a child, my family moved several times throughout rural South Carolina, and the Charleston area is where I now call home.
Specialties
Currently, I am working on earning my masters in Clinical Psychology at Wheaton College Graduate School. My Bachelor of Science is in Psychology from Charleston Southern University. I have experience in counseling women in a crisis pregnancy situation and educating college students on depression, anxiety, stress management, body image, and suicide prevention. I enjoy working with all types of people in all different walks of life, but my heart is drawn to the rural pace of life.
I am also certified to use an assessment tool called Prepare/Enrich for pre-marital and marital therapy. This assessment provides information about a couple's areas of strength and growth which provide areas of focus for therapy. The Prepare/Enrich system provides a foundation for a good marriage and areas to grow to enrich a marriage to last for years. After the assessment, I like to work with the couple on teaching communication and conflict resolution skills and how to resolve key relationship issues. To find more information on this method, you can go to the Prepare/Enrich website at: www.prepare-enrich.com
Counseling Style
My counseling style is relationship focused. I am interested by the patterns we tend to create in our relationships and enjoy helping people to discover healthier ways to relate to others and cope with the difficulties of life. I also recognize that people are unique, so I am fluid in my approach to help people accomplish their goals.
Hobbies and Interests
When not studying and reading for classes, my hobbies and interests tend to revolve around my dog. I also enjoy movies and books as well as attending sporting events, particularly going to a Cubs game.
